Hello,
A few years ago I purchased on line a large blue opal rough stone from a miner in Peru. The stone weighed in at 36 pounds and measured approximately 15″x15″x4.75″. The photos he sent me looked good and the price we settled on seemed fair. I pre-paid but it took over a year for the stone to finally reach me. A couple of years have gone by since then and just recently I have begun to work on it. I have come realize that the matrix is quite thin. In my estimation by weight the stone is approximately 90% opal and 10% of that kind of mud type matrix on the exterior and included (give or take). I’ve been trying to figure a value on the opal but I can find nothing to compare it with. Is there anyone out there that can give me their opinion? I have photos - a few that the miner sent me from Peru and some that I have recently taken.
Thank you,
John A.
